She Had Been Suffering Severe Headaches For 9 Months, The Reason Behind Will Give You Nightmares.
Tapeworm infections are common in areas which lack adequate sanitation and mostly in poor and developing countries. However this doesn’t guarantee that you wouldn’t get infected in rich countries. In fact, it all depends on how you prepare your food which means you wouldn’t know if you’re infested or not until you see a doctor or worse makes you terribly ill. Such is the case of a woman from Texas who unexpectedly learned the horrifying truth behind her severe headaches.
Yadira Rostro, 31, from Garland Texas had been suffering serious headaches for nine months.
Puzzled with her mysterious headaches she finally decided to sought medical help.
“Sometimes my sight was impaired. … I could not see properly,” Rostro explained, as reported by WCNC.
But doctors were shocked after they discovered the cause of her severe headaches was sacs of tapeworm eggs that had become embedded inside her brain.
They immediately operated her to remove the parasites and took out a total of 8 tapeworm eggs from her brain.Texas-moms-headaches-caused-by-tapeworm-sacs (1)
Neurosurgeon Richard Meyrat believed, Yadira picked up the tapeworm on a trip to Mexico two years ago, which are common in food contaminated with fecal matter.
These parasites usually leave their eggs in the digestive tracts of their hosts and are excreted in feces in a few days. But somehow the worm sacs made their way through her bloodstream into in her brain, and feed on her blood supply.
The Methodist Dallas Medical Center shared video of doctors extracting the larvae with permission from Yadira.
“They looked a little bit like eggs, and they have a clear sac. And inside it, a small tapeworm,” Dr. Meyrat explained.Texas-moms-headaches-caused-by-tapeworm-sacs (2)
Despite the harrowing experience, Rostro has made a full recovery, and even though she let her operation to be filmed for scientific research, she has refused to see the photographs of the parasite who lived inside her brain for nearly a year.
Although tapeworms are gross and uncomfortable, they are not usually deadly. However, in some instances the cysts caused by tapeworm eggs can become infected by bacteria. In some individuals, if these infected cysts burst it may result in anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction.” said Medical Daily.
